Balloon Evening

Party in the Pink

We raised £7,000 to be split between Breakthrough Breast Cancer and the Welch Almshous in an event attended by 140 in the beautiful marquee kindly lent by Nick and Romy. The evening culminated in dancing to Chris Jagger's band.

Harvest Supper

Nick and Romy hosted an al fresco supper for 50. Food was from the village, as was the entertainment, laid on by Gabriel, Ronan, and John.

Cider Making

Around 30 volunteers turned up on the morning of Apple Day in October to pick apples in Montgomery Farm's orchard. We picked short of 3 tonnes of traditional local varietes, which we took to Hecks's in Street for pressing. The cider will be available in 2007 as either flat farmhouse, sold by the gallon, or carbonated in bottles.

Jen Richards penned a poem to celebrate the occasion, which got slightly damp...

Fireworks

The annual fireworks display went off without incident (!). It was as usual well supported, and thanks for its success are due particularly to the Stones for organizing the pyrotechnics, to Ern for the use of his field, and all those on catering duty.

Christmas Party

We were lucky enough to have Father Christmas attend the Christmas party again this year - thanks Santa - and a veritable press of people enjoyed mulled wine and eats in the village hall.

Carol Singing

Thanks to all who turned out - and particularly to Chris Hibell - and to those who laid on drinks and food as we made our way around the village. We raised £139 for St. Margaret's Hospice.

Grace's 90th Birthday

Over 50 guests celebrated Grace Shepherd's 90th birthday party with drinks in the Old Rectory and lunch in the village hall. Over the years Grace has given so much to the village it seemed a lovely opportunity to say thank you. Happy birthday Grace, and we all look forward to enjoying a rerun in 2017.

Easter Monday

Egg Rolling down Portway Hill

Village Fete

We escaped the rain on Father's Day for an old fashioned afternoon of gentle entertainment, featuring Ern's sheep race, presided over by Anthony Ffookes.
Other attractions included Gilcombe Famr's excellent hog roast, strawberries and ice cream, and the village cider (surely not 6.5% proof - Ed.).
We had plant and cake stalls, children's tent, water slide, horse and trap rides around the village, and traditional games including skittles, won this year by Phillip Stone (mens), Charlotte Hawkins (women), and Florence Kissaine (under 16).
Thank you to everyone who helped for their time and enthusiasm. Money raised goes towards the upkeep of the Village Hall.

Apple Day

Thanks to all who turned out to pick this year's apples at Ern's orchard. We picked something like 2 tonnes this year, which should make us something around 220 gallons, currently sitting in 5 barrels in the cider shed.

Harvest Supper

We enjoyed a lovely Harvest Lunch after the Thanksgiving Service on 17th October in the Marquee behind the church.

Carol Singing
...round the village followed by drinks at The Manor House. A hardy group of over twenty braved the cold, collecting for charity.

Village Fete

Thanks to everyone who helped to put on this year's fiesta. We dodged the rain and enjoyed more events than ever...
The sheep race was won this year by Borat, somewhat improbably.

October

Apple picking in Ern's orchard

A great turnout on a beautiful day - many thanks to all. This year's Bullbeggarhas turned out very well indeed, the editor now notes (August 2009).

Harvest Festival and Lunch

What a fantastic event - lunch for 60 in the marquee, courtesy of the Smallwoods, to whom a huge thank you.

November

The firework display passed without incident, thanks largely to the excellent organization of the brothers Stone, the unsung heroes of the evening. A crowd of 200 tucked into mulled Bullbeggar and hotdogs and a good time had by all.

Christmas

An enthusiastic crowd carol sung this year ahead of the Christmas party, with Father Christmas once again its star attraction. The Chrstingle service was once again well attended, and thanks to our reliable group of volunteers we made a tiday profit at the Bruton bazaar.
