Thanks to village residents for completing the Lamyatt Play Area Survey! The Village Hall Committee was very pleased with
your support and the strong response rate. Below is a summary of findings :-
Ø Over 60% of households completed the survey
Ø Of the 36 respondents 83% supported the creation of a play area, a small number did not have a view.
Ø The preferred location was the triangle behind the bus shelter with 22 respondents mentioning this as their preferred
location -3 felt this was not a good location. The other most mentioned location was adjacent to the village hall, suggested
by 5 respondents.
Ø The priority list for equipment and facilities was ( most popular first) : swings and seats; seesaw/roundabout/basketball
hoop and a climbing frame, but several said keep it as simple as possible.
Ø Respondents have a total of 35 children: 11 under 7s ; 14 7-12s and 10 thirteen and over
Ø Lots of you were willing to help, with no fewer that 13 families offering to get involved in creating the play area
and 10 offering to be involved in future running and maintenance.
Ø Many of you without children were supportive of the idea of a play area for the community with some facilities everyone
could enjoy.
The next step is to do a proper appraisal of sites, funding sources etc and to plan the overall finances of the scheme.
This will be done with advice and support from Mendip District Council. The first meeting of the planning group was held on
5th July 2007. If you didn't respond it is not too late to add your views! Further views and offers of help are very welcome.
